Why Chicago brands work with Nevear
- Small first runs. Our minimum is typically 50 pieces per item, so you can test a style before committing to hundreds of units. Read what MOQ means.
- US-made or imported. Produce with our US partner factories to avoid import duty, or in the UK, Pakistan or China for a lower price per piece.
- Room to grow. Repeat orders can reach around 50,000 pieces in a single shipment, from the same approved sample.
- A predictable timeline. Samples take 2–3 weeks, and bulk orders usually arrive 3–4 weeks from the order date, shipping included.

Sales tax on clothing in Chicago
Illinois has no sales tax exemption for clothing: it is taxed as general merchandise at the state rate of 6.25%. Local taxes are added on top, and the Illinois Department of Revenue gives 10.25% as the total rate on a general merchandise sale in Chicago. Rates change, so check your address with the department's Tax Rate Finder.
To sell in Illinois, you register with the Illinois Department of Revenue to collect and pay the tax.
Buying stock tax-free: the Certificate of Resale
When you buy clothing to resell, you can avoid paying sales tax on it by giving your supplier a Certificate of Resale, form CRT-61, or your own document with the same information: both businesses' names and addresses, a description of the goods, a statement that they are for resale, your signature and date, and your Illinois account ID or resale number.
Suppliers keep the certificate on file, and it should be updated at least every three years. A retailer that buys for resale stays registered as a retailer and uses the CRT-61; registering as a reseller is only for businesses whose sales are all non-taxable.
Made in the USA or imported: what you pay at the border
| Where the clothing is made | Duty into the US |
|---|---|
| USA | None |
| UK | 16.5% + 10% |
| Pakistan | 16.5% + 10% |
| China | 16.5% + 12.5%, plus 7.5% on many lines |
