Why Houston brands work with Nevear
- Small first runs. Our minimum is typically 50 pieces per item, so you can test a style before committing to hundreds of units. Read what MOQ means.
- US-made or imported. Produce with our US partner factories to avoid import duty, or in the UK, Pakistan or China when the price per piece matters more.
- Room to grow. Repeat orders can reach around 50,000 pieces in a single shipment, from the same approved sample.
- A predictable timeline. Samples take 2–3 weeks, and bulk orders usually arrive 3–4 weeks from the order date, shipping included.
We make sportswear, t-shirts, tank tops, shorts, hoodies and caps for Houston labels.
Selling in Texas: permit, sales tax and the tax-free weekend
To sell clothing in Texas you need a sales and use tax permit from the Texas Comptroller. There is no fee for the permit, although the Comptroller can ask for a security bond.
The state rate is 6.25%. Cities, counties, transit authorities and special-purpose districts can add up to 2% between them, for a maximum combined rate of 8.25%. Check the exact rate for an address with the Comptroller's rate locator.
Each August, Texas holds a sales tax holiday when most clothing and footwear priced under $100 is tax-free, in stores and online. In 2026 it ran from 7 to 9 August. If you sell back-to-school or basics ranges, that weekend is worth planning stock and pricing around.
Imports through Port Houston
Port Houston is the largest container port on the US Gulf Coast, handling about three-quarters of the Gulf Coast's container traffic, and it ranks fifth among US container ports. It handled a record 4.3 million TEU (twenty-foot container units) in 2025. Imported clothing pays US duty whichever port it comes through:
| Where the clothing is made | Duty into the US |
|---|---|
| USA | None |
| UK | 16.5% + 10% |
| Pakistan | 16.5% + 10% |
| China | 16.5% + 12.5%, plus 7.5% on many lines |
Our US guide explains each rate, the tariff changes of 2026 and the FTC rules for labeling clothing sold in the US.
